John Deere 855 odd issue

Hey guys, I just Monday bought a John Deere 855. 1915
hours, in decent shape. I was a little over an hour into mowing
my field, starting to climb a very slight grade, & the tractor shut
down. Was kind of difficult to restart, but it did. However, no
PTO. I let the tractor sit for an hour, came out and it fired right
up, still no pto. I can reach in (with the key on tractor not
running) and move the PTO arm up and the PTO light will
come on. The magnet will not pull the arm up. I know these
tractors have issue with the Time Delay Module & the
electromagnet on the engagement arm. I'm more concerned
with why the tractor shut down? I can't have the tractor
shutting down randomly especially mowing the amount of
grass I have. I know there is a safety button under the seat,
but is there a safety that could have faulted to shut the tractor
down? The combination is odd to me. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, Jeff Mikus.

Believe I'd call the previous owner and asked what the heck is going on. It's probably not its first rodeo and you may have been sold a problem. Maybe the previous owner will come clean.

Engine quitting could be fuel filter problem and electrical safety system issued developed separately after getting off and on. Still, the whole problem could be in the safety features that are built into the electrical seat, pto control, etc. I'd start by understanding and then checking out the electrical safety circuit, switches and adjustments. You'll probably need a tech manual. Maybe just pull up on, then push back down the electrical seat button switch under the seat.

This is my second post....suppose you bought tractor as is and may not contact the previous owner.....I had a 755 and the clutch is operated electrically...what is sounds like to me is that you have purchased and immediately put it to heavy work....I would say you have a bad electrical clutch/magnet also have a fuel supply issue and switches that may be bad...first you need an owner's manual and a service manual. A parts manual would also be nice. You also need a good dry place to work on the tractor. Buy all new filters for your fuel system. As I recall the fuel tank is under the hood. Now before you start get your homework up to date and study the manuals....there are no simple fixes for trouble shooting as you need to understand your tractor. Short of a big wallet and paying $70-100 and hour at the dealer this will be your options. Check switches, etc....just an overall trouble shooting needed....
