JD A hydraulics

On my 1951 JD A the #45 loader lifted over 900 pounds. I took the loader off, hooked the 11 foot disk with no weights on the hydraulic port on the right side in back of the tractor and it won't lift the disk. It will place it in the ground (wheels will move all the way up) but when I move the lever the other way it moves the tires to the ground and that is it. No shaking and the lever does not move back to the middle position. I have enough oil in it. Did I loose pressure when I placed the dummy rods in the back two port holes and used the side port holes for my disk? (I used the back two port holes for the loader, but I did not have the correct coupling to use the back two for the disk.)

I'm thinking you currently have only one way hydraulics. Switch the hoses, and see what happens.
Longer tern,I would hook into where you hooked the loader, and forget the side ports.

Those side ports were not really meant for use as hydraulic hose connection ports! They're actually just the plugged holes left over from machine work that needed done inside the main housing when it was made.

To work one needs the special plug to close off the waste port so it can have pressure. The other one needs to have the rock shaft cylinder at the end of stroke before it has more pressure than what is required to move the rock shaft to the up position.

If you use the regular original hose end adapters and the regular ports out the rear you MAY find it works just fine like Cooney Minnie said.
