I have a 1950 M that I would like to find a sickle mower for. Is there one out there that was made just to fit the m, or does anyone have any suggestions as to which one would work the best. Thanks for all your help and input.

I used to run a No.5 mower on my MT and they worked well together but you need to find the right set up. They key is to find a No. 5 with quick-tach brackets that would mount onto a round bar. That is how my No. 5 mounted and it was a real easy to attach set up. Back up to mower, put on the two quick tach clamps, attach to the rear lift arm, and then attach the PTO. There was a six foot bar on my No. 5 and the MT ran it fine in nearly all conditions.

The mid-mount option is the M-20 mower and the "correct" M rear mount mower was the No. 51.

I have an M20 and an M51 mower for my M.
They are a pain to put on and take off. If you only need it of a little mowing here and there and still want to pull a wagon find an John Deere #5 mower with the correct set up. This will mount up and remove easier so you can go back to the drawbar.

I got a Model 51 with my M package deal. It can be on & ready to Mow
in 20 minutes. That's as long as I doesn't fall off the platform I made.
Mine only has a 5' bar but it works well & I have had NO issues with it
what so Ever.

I have a #5. Was told it came off a MT. if I remember right it has a quick hitch and some kind of jack shaft for lifting. I was going to put it on a A with Cable lift system. You don't see many of that combo. Sold the A so I don't need it any more. Also have the arm that fits on Rock shaft for the cable lift if interested. Iowa

I mowed a lot of hay when I was kid with an M and a #51 mower. They worked great together. But like rla said you should build a platform to set it on and to hook up to. My dad fixed one up for me when I was ten years old and I could hook it up alone. and I wasn't big for my age. You had better get a manual for the mower as it will help!

The quik-tach hitch for the M is different than the others. Parts book shows it. Can't recall if spacing of clamps is more or less. Friend has one sitting in the hedgerow, could measure next time I see it.
