The original subject was "Re: 8010 converted to 8020".

It was 99 tractors they had to update. Hardly a drop in the bucket for Deere. It wasn't a recall nightmare like IH had with the 460 and 560 tractors. So breaking them financially... You're not even close to being remotely accurate. False information big time. Lol

This info came from Jan/Feb 2008 TWO-Cylinder magazine which also has the numbers made for 1010 to 7520.It appears 100 8010s were built and first one was considered a prototype and not counted. but only 77 were rebuilt as 8020s.The other 23 records are void. The chronic transmission cooling problem was reason for recall. My friend Larry Maasdam has an all original 8020 and was voted best original at Rantoul I believe it is #57 not sure.Steiger and Versatile were far ahead of anything else made and JD partnered with Wagner in 1969 on WA-14[32made] & WA-17[28 made] which didn't sell well. Then the 7020/7520/8630 followed and they were nicer to look at but cost JD a lot of money and the 8630s had more updates than most any other tractor JD made.We tried an 8630/8640/8650 and then went to a Red IH Steiger with the Cummins and Allison which was excellent with no problems.Jon Kinzebau could have saved JD millions if they had worked with him.My info is not always correct but worth what it costs.

You mean Jon Kinzenbaw. John Deere wouldn't stoop so low to consult with anyone especially the competition.

Your correct there wgm,,Deere would do better to consult in us lowly users more often,,after all the, modern day tractors had their beginnings in Farm shops..and people with creative minds like John Kinzenbaw were applying down to earth knowledge the old fashion way and making them work..

That has been one of Deere greatest weakness! To much pride. But that has changed a lot lately. Cam so builds all of the track components for the 9rx
