A guy was telling me yesterday that he used to have an R with an after market electric starter.I have never heard that before but maybe he's right, does anyone know? Thanks Ron

I installed a 24 Volt Delco Starter on a JD "R" I once owned back in .....1975? Starter had been on a Caterpillar Engine "G333". Six Cylinder Natural Gas fuel (Electrical Gen. Set). Inspection plate over Crankcase of JD R was removed,3/8" steel plate was installed with a SADDLE attached to the plate with a 1/2" web between the saddle and the 3/8" plate. U bolts held the Starter in place. Also ONE BOLT aligned with a hole in the Starter mounting Flange and the BACKING plate that held the Flywheel Cover in place, or possibly it was were the angle drive from the stating clutch attached.

I had plumbed ONE coolant line into the Radiator, and the other coolant ports that attached to the starting Engine were Taped NPT and plugged. I must have threaded an NF plug? into the main Engine block were the OIL DRAIN plug (starting Engine)was threaded.

Engine Started every time with Decompressor still being utilized.

This is how I remember it.....42 years ago.
