Did JD made any 2020 with hydraulic reverser? I can see it in parts book, but never seen it on a tractor.

How good are the reversers from the 400 tractor?

Is it better to find a 2020 with Hi lo or with reverser?

I can't remember for sure but I think 2020 could be ordered with hyd reverser. If reverser is listed in 2020 parts catalog then I think it was an option. IIRC the hyd reversers were fairly reliable.

I had to fix a green 2020 loader-tractor with a hydraulic reverser, so yes - they existed. Kind of rare I assume since if
that was what someone wanted - new - they'd likely buy the industrial yellow version of the 2020 sold as the "400." The
reverser does not look any stronger or weaker then the hi-low, but . . I suspect a reverser gets used harder and gets more
shock-load from from forward-to-reverse shifting. I know my 300 (yellow 1020) shifts kind of hard and I tend to go easy with
my "shuttle" shifts.

I have seen some loader users just set the hand throttle up near pro rims and use the clutch or reverser to control speed and direction. Instead of setting the throttle to something just above idle to prevent stalling when reversing and the operator using the foot throttle for when more speed was desired .

I just got a new to me 400 with a 9400 hoe so I'm just getting familiar with it. Not sure if it's what your interested in but here goes. It has a forward/reverse lever on the dash. Up/forward, down/reverse no clutch, change on the go. It has a shift lever on the right side between my legs with an H-pattern, 1-4 gears. On the left side is another shift lever T-pattern with park and ranges 1/low & 2/high. It will not reverse in the high/2 range.

My Dec of 1971 book says add $367 for a reverser,,and add $335 for a hi/low shift,, and of course you could only have one or the other options
