Original colors for John Deere H

Can someone help me find the original color scheme of a 1940 John Deere H. Was muffler blaack or Green. What red do i use for cap on gas starter tank? Please help......

I believe the muffler should be green... but, every good restoration has them black. Back in the day, that green paint was burned off the muffler on the first day on the farm, if the dealer hadn't done it
testing out the tractor before they sold it.

Black looks better than rust, and there is good quality paint for stoves, etc that lasts in the high heat environment.

Not sure what to say on the red for the fuel cap...

My Dad had an H in the late 40's and I don't think they had red gas caps back then. Any ideas when they started with red caps?

Well, the big tank cap should be green, because H's were set up to be all-fuel. Caps for "gas", in this case the starting tank, were red at some point, but I don't recall if that was in the time frame of the H, or not.
