John Deere 4020 brakes

Have a 4020 brakes work fine while the engine is running. If you have the brake pedal pressed while you shut of the engine the brakes hold. But if engine stalls before you push the breaks the pedal bottoms out. checked the check valves in brake valve all looked OK. A 3020 that I know of you can use the brake a few times with the engine off.

Early 4020/3020 did not have an accumulator,, the later,console models did..

Did you bleed the brakes? Air in the system can cause this problem.

So is that the way all 3020 & 4020's were before the side console?

Tim wouldn't Todd1969 have a high pressure leak to sump causing this also like the 3 point or svc leaking?

My early model 1967 4020 is like that. No engine = no brakes, no steering.
