4020 oil leak over the starter

Hello - my Dad has several 4020 tractors that are in need of attention. So, I am helping him. I am not very familiar with tractors yet, and I have a repair book on the way, but need help in the mean time. Here's the deal: No problem with oil pressure, but oil leaks out, and drips onto the starter and burns it out. "O" rings have been replaced, but this only stopped the leak for about 2 months, then it does it again. Has anyone had the same situation? If so, what else might cause the leak besides the O ring? Do I need to hire a new mechanic? Any clues will be most appreciated. Best regards - Suzanne

OK I'm thinking this a early 4020 with the hydraulics on the dash and the selective control valve is doing the
leaking, can you tell me more about it

If your Dad's mechanic can't repair a hyd leak that remains leak free for than 2 months then I think he needs to find a better "mechanic".

Make sure they replaced ALL the o rings, and that the mating surfaces are perfectly clean. They can be a problem to get to seal on occasion. I have one (a 2510) that's been resealed a couple of times by a
proffesional, yet the drip comes back. I'm guessing something needs machining flat...
