I was looking for a tractor with a loader on it for some very light work around my 6 acres. and I ran across an elderly man selling his 40 acres and he has a 4010 with a JD loader, Diesel and comes with a brush hog and a blade for the 3 point. He said he bought it about 8 years ago and took it to a local JD dealer and told them to go thru and fix any leaks or anything mech. it needed and he has a bill from about 5 years ago showing they did 5,000.00 worth of work. it currently has one loader cyc leaking and it has not been shed so paint is real bad, but starts and sounds very good. He is asking 5500.00 and that does not sound bad to me, but I have no idea what these new generation tractors are worth. Just want your guys opinion if that is a good buy or not and anything I should be looking for such as problems etc. Thank you in advance and will be looking forward to your comments. It has no cab.
 

Sounds like a pretty decent deal to me. Depending upon exactly what they are the brush hog and blade are likely worth $500 to $100 each. The loader anywhere from $500 to $2500 if it is something like a No. 148. A good running 4010 diesel with wide front is worth about 5K.
 
That tractor will last forever and do whatever you need on 6 acres and you won't beat that price. If it looked good, you'd be afraid to use it. I'd get it.
 
That sounds like a pretty good deal as long as the tractor is mechanically sound. I picked up a 4020 diesel at an auction two weeks back that went for $8200 in good condition and my father just bought a 48 loader at an auction for $750. Granted, prices are a little high in my area and a 4020 will bring more that a 4010, but I agree, for 6 acres that 4010 will do the job.
 
$5000 wont buy much.I would think with loader and attachments even though it looks tough should work.The cylinder probably needs a seal kit and if they spent $5000 it wouldn't have been overhauled as that could be more.
