51 B Cylinder Leakage Amount

I was able to run a leakdown test on each cylinder and the LH side is about 20% and right side 23%. Is this okay? Or does this indicate a rebuild is in order? According to the gauge this is low leakage. The leakage is through the piston rings.

I think your over analyzing these old two cylinders. They will run fine with some wear. Leak down test seems a little much. If it starts and runs decently and doesn't burn a lot of oil, it's fine. Have fun!

I would not "Judge" it until you have WORKED it good for several Hours...

These babies were built to WORK, not to idle around all day long...

Hook it to a disc, Plow or Drag and let it BARK...!!!

New rings are a simple job..even it there is some taper in the bore. ( unless you actually feel like handling the Block for a re-bore).

JUST as long as you have a GOOD Ridge-Reamer...that Ridge MUST be completely removed before you put New Rings in that Bore..

If you do decide to put new rings in, know that your B will have a ridge of about 1 1/8". I know cuz I just had my 51 B apart and most ridge reamers have about 5/8" cutter. Locate the right reamer before you tear it down.
