4320 hydraulics

Just got the 4320 back together after the pto engangement pins were leaking hydraulic fluid on the clutch. I adjusted the linkage on the pto vavle so the pins would not pulsate. Got the tractor back together was using it on hydraulic auger and no have lost ALL hydrailics. PTO, powersteering, 3 pt, remotes everything. I suspect the transmission pump has quit or I am leaking oil somewhere fast. Any ideas

Was able to push tractor to shed. Removed supply line from filter housing that goes to front pump and with engine running there is no oil being pumped out of transmission pump.

My first thought is did you pull it together with the clutch housing bolts?? I have seen this happen and it can shove the input/top shaft,,and bust the transmission pump...I know that is an awful thought...but it is my bet,,Darn it...

I am afraid that my thoughts are correct...you can look in through the bung hole in the back and see the trans pump..

Well good news is I don't think that is the problem. I really think I have algae in the hydraulic fluid.I took the supply pipe off and had nothing so I took the filter housing off and the filter was full of greasy looking stuff so I took it out and started the tractor and let it run briefly and the transmission pump is pumping oil out the filter housing. I've called my oil supplier and they are coming up with a plan. Have had algae in diesel fuel but this is a new one.

That is better,,,I wonder why it showed up like it did??had it been setting for a long time??

We started getting oil on the clutch back in October during harvest. Has just been moved out of the way a couple times since then. Never ran for more than ten minutes. It's in an older machine shed we are in centra Illinois where humidity is always high and things tend to sweat. Now to go about cleaning it all out. Thanks for the help.

I would not be surprised if what you think is algae is actually brake material.

Please post results of change and clean.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 100 percent confident it is not brake material. We put brakes in this tractor 3 years ago and it looks nothing like that.after many Google searches I believe it is algae in the early stages of 'life' almost looks like water contaminated oil but it is very sticky not slimy. As far as pic I alraedy 'cleaned' the flirty filter with e-85 and it reacted just like algae in diesel fuel. I'm flushing system with diesel fuel mixed with a habit of new hyrdraulic fluid and waiting on fuel/oil supplier to recommend a biocide.

Well I got all of the sludge removed from the hydraulic system and now the hydraulics will work for about ten to fifteen minutes and if the 3 pt is up I will lose everything. If I leave it down I will have power steering and brakes but ithey will be weak. I must have a leak somewhere in the rockshaft, hydraulic housing that is starving me for oil. Any ideas?

Try moving L/D control lever under seat to a different setting. With engine running, bung plug in diff housing removed look inside hole for moving oil. A bore scope would be of assistance in viewing inside hole.

Got time to go out to the shed. Moving the load control lever doesn't seem to make a difference. I took the bung plug out and can't really see
anything in there. Do not have a bor scope my brother has one that I will, try to get ahold of. With transmission top off the top shaft is still oiling
when I lose steering and everything else. Has to be a blown o-ring or suction tube crack or something.

Tim thanks for the reply. Is there a way to check the stroke valve? This tractor does not have a de-stroking valve installed. Is it as simple as just installing the valve to see if that is the problem? I guess it seems odd to me is that is seems to work for ten minutes with three point down but if you raise it up it slowly raises the three point but it chatters like starving for oil then you loose hydraulics to the front as well. Shut the tractor off and lower three point let is set for a bit then it will work again for ten minutes or so.

When it starves, you should unscrew the oil filter and see if pump is flowing well. Will make a mess.
With algae, you may also have the filter valve and all the valves in general that are attached to that block stuck.

Other possibility is problem with the pump or oil supply + priority valve stuck open. That would explain why lifting three points has an impact.

I have not unscrewed the filter yet while running. I do have the transmission cover off and when it's starving for the oil the top shaft is still
getting oil. If you push in the clutch the oil to the top shaft does quit. Where is the priority valve and can I clean it out or does it require special
tools?

Tranmssion circuits have priority over the supply to the front pump. The front pump only recieves what oil is left over after the transmission lubrication, trans clutch packs and trans brake packs are supplied .

Well good news! Finally got all of the sludge moved, cleaned, displaced whatever and now my hydraulics have returned to normal. So thanks for everybody's help, and ideas. Took a lot of hours takins lines off and cleaning them. For now hydraulics are all working good. I have developed another problem tho. My pto seems to dragging with the transmission engaged. As soon as I put tractor in gear and engage the clutch my pto will start to spin. Does NOT do it in neutral so seems the pto brake is holding but what do I have too tight? To cause this?

I have seen the PTO idler gear gauld to the transmission bottom shaft do this,,in nuetrul slowly engage the PTO and see if the tractor trys to move..
