4555 steering

This isn't an old tractor to me but I know several of you have them and work on them. This tractor belongs to a good friend and he called me on it yesterday. While running a module builder at 1300-1500 RPM's the tractor will steer a little to the right the longer it runs on it's own. When driving the tractor is has become very hard to steer in either direction. The tractor is maintained properly. It has right at 16,000 hours on it. Would this be a problem in the valve that is on the front of the cab under the back of the hood or something else? It's been a long time since I've worked on this series of tractors. Thanks for any input.

Yes, that is most likely where the problem is, the center spool gets scored up and sticky,,the spool and body are a matched set so the complete valve will need replaced. You can remove the end caps and see if the spool is sticky,, cut a can to put under the valve to catch about a quart of oil to keep it off the engine..
