combine engine

I am trying to identify a OLD pull type combine engine, the man who owned it, says that is a Lycoming, Another Deere Expert says it is a Hercules. It has a air cleaner very similar to my 1930 D. It a four cylinder flat head with a flat belt pulley under the radiator and a hand crank on the other of the engine. It will be at the Elnora Indiana show tomorrow. THANKS

Photos help a lot in situations like this. But do you have any more info? How many cylinders? What model combine did it come off?

IF it is from a really old combine, it would have be a Lycoming I think. I'm not sure what pull types would have used a Hercules... an early 65 (6 cylinder), and perhaps an early 12a (2 cyl) would have used Hercules. But the big old steel wheeled things I think had 4 cylinder Lycoming power.

It supposed to have came of a early 1930"s steel wheel combine, the combine is long gone, don't know how to send photo. The engine is extra nice condition. I intend to look in several John Deere History books, as of now, I am lending toward it being a Lycoming. it is a four cylinder flat head.

Here is a picture of the Lycoming engine, on what I believe is a 5A combine. Obviously the mag is not original. Not really sure if anything else has been changed.

Thanks to WYO-DAVE, The photo looks like the engine in question, The Radiator, the Radiator screen, The Belt pulley, the Starting crank, The Air cleaner, the Mag location and other things are like the engine that I have questioned about, I will look closer for the Serial Number tag. I will report back, T H A N K S
