Need help on JD G flywheel issue

Guys I am a regular on the tractor talk forum. I have worked on most 2 cylinders over the years. Here is my issue I have a G we are going over. When we took the flywheel off I had to make a puller (used the two holes in the wheel) and a rod to the crank and it was on there!! Now putting it back on it just don't want to go. What am I missing? The oil seal pin is lined up with the slot, the engine was timed but it just will not go on the splines only a about 1/2 way. Lets just say I never had quite such an issue with A and B. Thanks for any help heck guess its better than one being loose on the crank!!!

I assume the nuts are los on the backside? They are usually worn enough to slide on otherwise.

What was the reason for removing the flywheel? Did you replace the crank seal? When replacing the flywheel, it needs to be correctly timed to the crankshaft or bad vibration will occur. Having the drive pin aligned will the oil seal slinger will not guarantee the flywheel is timed to the crankshaft. You might try wire brushing the splines to remove any dirt or rust.

We pulled the crank and rebuilt engine Whole tractor is under restoration. Just some thing not right I have had a b h flywheels off some may been unpleasant but this is just not right. No evidence of some one tinkering up the crank or flywheel but not sure.

On my tractors I put a hydraulic jack on the clutch side on the wheel and crank shaft to prevent damage when in stalling, only need slight pressure on the crank, this keeps from damaging the crank bearings while driving on the fly wheel. Good luck
