How much cylinder to piston clearance do I need when boring a late JD A block to .045 over with original JD cast pistons

I think you bore .003 to .004 under what it should finish to and hone till you get the proper clearance to the piston. Others here more knowledgeable may have something to add.

With aftermarket aluminum pistons the clearance should be 0.012 to 0.015 over. My supplier had several cases when the original specs for cast pistons of 0.08 to 0.010 was used and the engine locked down after warming up. I use 0.015 over on all engine rebuilds with aluminum pistons.
