4430 3 Point Issue

Working on my 4430 had the front hydraulic pump out to replace o rings on the fittings, got it started and set the stand by pressure to 2250, checked it on the remote. Used the three point hitch and it raised all
the way up. But when I go to lower it the hitch will not stop at any position except all the way down. Its like it is either all the way up or all the way down, no in between. Is there adjustments that I can do to fix
this? Thanks

Try moving your load and depth lever, might have got bumped to a different position, the way it is acting now.

Has anyone mucked with the load control shaft, and possible got it disengaged from the fork on the arm that leads to the hitch control valve?

Be sure L/D control knob(key 30) by right leg when sitting in seat is in minimum setting. Be sure star nut(key 44) is tight in rockshaft control valve housing.

I will check on the Load control and see if that makes a difference. I know it was in the MAX position so I will try it when I get home and check the star nut to see if it is tight, Ill post back tonight

Put it on zero load depth and checked the star nut and it was tight. I could stop the three point at different heights but only after I went past where I wanted to stop and then brought the lever up a little so it worked a little better but not perfect. Also when I got off and had the tractor still running I could pick up the arms and lift them up is this normal ?

The ability to raise 3 pt draft arms is normal as very few ag tractors have down pressure on 3 pt hitch. I'll suggest you acquire a JD 4430 tech manual as perform the L/D mechanism settings as outlined in tech manual. There are numerous settings that need to be checked.

I have a service manual and I started to go through it but the first step gave me a problem. First off this tractor is a 1977 and the guy I bought it from had a service manual for it but it is for the early
series something like up to serial 33,000 and mine is 73240R. Anyway I thought I would try to go through the settings in the book so the first thing it says to do is to measure LD lever position with it on max
setting and the measurement should be 1 9/32 to 1 15/32 when measured from rockshaft top plate to center of pin. Mine is no where close to that and the lever will not move anymore in the direction I need to
get that measurement. The lever acts like it hits something. Now I don't know if this is the wrong setting because of the book or if the late models are adjusted the same way. Any ideas?

It's been many yrs since I adjusted L/D mechanism & I can't remember the correct procedure. Maybe one of the real JD technicians will answer your question???????

Well I was just looking on JDparts and they list two different breakdowns for the rockshaft LD linkage so Im hoping my book is
wrong, just ordered the right series book for it. Guess Ill have to wait to see what the new book says when it gets here
