I tested my trans pump this morning and its hardly moving my flow meter maybe 1 or 2 gpm. I installed a dummy filter (3" tube 5.5" long with seal. My inlet to my flow meter is installed in the ported filter and outlet is installed in the plug where the oil pressure sender would be. Did I do this correctly? Trans pump not doing its job?

Inlet to flow meter should attached to oil sender orifice not hyd oil filter housing. Have you checked to be sure hyd oil filter relief valve is seating properly? Have you turned engine over for 15 seconds with hyd oil filter housing removed & measured oil output of trans pump?

TX Jim, I removed the oil filter housing and within 15 seconds of cranking I maybe got a quart of oil. I should have got more like 2 gallon correct?

I hooked my inlet of flow meter to ported filter base and outlet to the reservoir I was getting 9 gpm with engine high idle

Yes trans should pump over a gallon in 15 seconds

Ok. Update. I found 2 pieces of rubber from the old filter seal stuck in the filter relief valve. Pulled the valve and cleaned. Looked for the other missing pieces of rubber but none found. Installed valve, and new filter. I flow tested main pump again and was getting about 5 gpm at high idle. Inlet to flow meter before pressure control valve and outlet hooked to ported filter base. I wonder if those other pieces of rubber are stuck somewhere? With only a quart of oil from the transmission pump in 15 seconds of cranking, I think I'm going after the trans pump. Sound correct?

Pull the brake valve off,, you will find more pieces of the rubber off the filter there,in that cavity, bridging the outlet hole,,look at the cone in the filter bowl and see if it is still there,, my guess is it's gone....

There are many different directions to go on these, since you mentioned rubber pieces in the mix, I have seen them bridge the port in behind the brake valve,, pull it an see what you find,, they can create a "check valve" and not let oil to the front pump faking you into thinking it's a pump..I also saw one that had about a pint of rubber stuffed into the inlet part of the front pump, in that one it had flow to the pump,,but the front of the pump was stuffed full of rubber not letting it get into the inlet valves..They are indeed a "Pandora's Box" to open and repair..Frustrating but fixable..

ok. I will continue on my journey with this thing. Its definitely not a 4020. I did one more quick test. I disconnected the supply line to the pump, directed to a clean 5 gal bucket and started the tractor. After 55 seconds at idle it filled the bucket. Makes me think the trans pump is ok and my problem is forward.
