730 gas vibration

our 730 gas seems to vibrate quite a bit (steering wheel, throttle, and fenders have visible vibration) when it is between 550 and 1000 rpm's. at an
idle it is smooth and above 1000 rpm's it is smooth. is that nature of the beast or is something not right?

i know the flywheel is on the correct spline. I assume there is a counter weight bolted to the crank like on a diesel? is it possible that is off?

thanks

The counterweight to the flywheel is part of the casting in the clutch driver.
If the flywheel is on the right spline, then your clutch driver is not.
There are Mark's to go by but if marks are missing, you can find the
weight on the back inside side of the flywheel, then position the weight
in the clutch driver 180 degrees opposite.

Thats not true on the 720 & 730s the clutch is just round and there is no counter weight it is not timed to the crank. there a counter weight is in side the crank case bolted to the crankshaft

You're right about the counterweight. I had forgot about the one on the inside
bolted to the crank on the flywheel end.
Still begs the question- why the vibration?
Counterweight fell off or missing?
He would need to pull crankcase cover to look inside.
Clutch disc riveted backing broken flying apart?
Ignition problem?

Re-toque your flywheel, if vibration go away then the flywheel was your problem, meaning you are going to possible need a new flywheel soon. Good luck.

we just had the flywheel off to switch the gears to the 8 mph 5th gear. flywheel seems tight on splines, had to pry it off with bars and work it back on. me and dad are not sure if it did it before we worked on it or not, i kinda recall that it may have but cant say for sure, which leads me to question if the counter weight is still in place on crank, i have no idea what operating characteristics that would cause.

Maybe check one more time that the flywheel is on the correct spline. Unless the crank weight is missing that's the only explanation unless someone did something crazy with one light and one heavy piston.

Bring #1 piston to top and then look to see if punch mark on flywheel is at 3 o'clock. Also timing degree mark on flywheel should be on top if my memory is correct. Good luck.

i will correct you once more the counter weight is bolted on clutch end of the crank the flywheel is counter weighted on the other end

Popin don't mean to be a butt just hate to to see incorrect info put out there this old stiff is toff ennoff for the young guys
