JD 148 Loader Lift Cylinder

Took lift cylinder off loader yesterday. Checked parts book and I see they show 3 choices. I understand serial numbers but the other choice appears as... Lift Cylinder (Wear Ring in Rod Guide) (148 Loader). Any ideas and are any special tools required to rebuild? Thanks!

I don't remember any special tools required but an o-ring pick & screwdriver to remove snap ring. I suppose one needs to disassemble cylinder & heck for the presence of the wear ring.

You need to remove the external snap ring. This snap ring
holds the cast plug from sliding inside of the cylinder.

Once the external snap ring is removed you will need to push
the cast plug inside of the cylinder to expose the internal snap
ring which holds the cast plug from sliding out. You may have
to use a hammer and punch to get the cast plug in far enough
to expose the internal snap ring. Be careful not to brake the
cast plug.

Once internal snap ring is removed, good luck trying to pull
the ram out of the cylinder. I have chained them to a tree and
pulled it apart with a tractor, you will be surprised how much
power it will take to pull them apart.

I bought my seal kits from Baum hydraulics out of Nebraska
for pennies compared to Deere.

Thanks for the info all! Was able to separate by advice and determined what I had and needed. I hope it won't be as hard to get in as out! Hooked to side by side at first, but had to get tractor to separate.

before ya put the new packing and stuff back in,, take a cylinder hone and remove the burr at the snapring groove,, things will go back together a lot easier
