R Model and Intro

Good day all. This is my first post on the site. I didn't see an introduction area, but since I have a John Deere, I figured why not here.

I do have a question about the R though. The Crank that is on it seems to have work down where the flywheel goes on. I actually have a new flywheel, but if I install it, I know that the same thing that happened to the last one will happen. You have to tighten it down on the Crank so much that it actually cracks the flywheel.

Has anyone ever encountered this issue? And if so, what was your solution? At this point I figure my options are - Buy a new crank (probably expensive if you can find it) OR Remove the crank and have a machine shop turn it and insert some sort of bushing to take up the slack.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Kent, Thanks for the reply. I tried to PM but it says locked out. This forum is a bit different than some others I've been on. $200 is something I'd be happy to pay, it's just a matter of shipping. What would to charge total, shipping and all to 76655?

Have you considered a Tapper lock fly wheel?

Flywheel bore has been bored tapered:

Splined tapered wedge fits into flywheel bore:

As Flywheel is drawn up tapered wedge, assembled assembly becomes tight on Crankshaft:

I have no connection or financial investment with this firm:

I do know a "Tapper lock fly wheel" was the answer & cure for many 2 Cylinders.

This will definitely work. We're looking at $325.00 total, correct? Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll get you more detailed info like my # and everything. That way my personal info isn't broadcasted over the forum. You can email me your PayPal info so I can pay you. Thanks again.

Also, if you don't mind, Send a couple of photos also so I can get an eye on what I'm buying. Thanks Kent.
