Hydraulic leaks and other problems

I have several problems with my 1010RS Dual hydraulics. First off, is the oil supposed to be poured into the oil cap at the front of the hydraulic quadrant? If so, how high does it need to be filled? I filled it to the top and when I started the tractor it spewed out hydraulic fluid w/ the cap on for a good 30 seconds before it calmed down and the hydraulics kept working. Also, I replaced the oil seals on the rockshaft arm, but the left side is still leaking. What can I do to fix that?

Also, how can I tell if my voltage regulator is bad? I rebuilt and tested my generator, but the tractor doesn't seem to be charging the battery (12.3ish volts at the battery when running at 1400 RPM).

Thanks in advance.

Hydraulic oil should not be filled up to the cap. On the back on the unit beneath the seat there should be a petcock. With tractor on level ground fill until oil runs out the petcock. Might be a bold or square head plug in there if someone lost of broke the petcock at some point. I found with my 1010RS when I changed out the fluid this fall that even a bit over full and it wanted to run some out the cap under the seat with a heavy load on the 3 pt. I used Hy-Gard in mine after flushing the system.

Guess on the lift is that there is a worn spot on the shaft. You could try moving the seal so it is not riding on the spot that is worn or see if you can find a double lip seal. Not sure this is an option with the splines on the end but you could try getting a sleeve for the shaft or a replacement shaft. Likely, with the unit over filled, its going to find a way out somewhere. After changing fluid in mine it leaked from the arms a bit as well but settled itself out once it got to a proper level.
