Got to replace a bunch of them 4020/3020 batteries
in tractors and decide I'm NOT buying anymore of
them weak low CCA hard to put in place batteries
Decide to go to the threaded 1000 CCA truck
batteries that are less than half the price
Also priced the jd steps and hand rail and ended up
making my own brackets and buying just the 2
bottom steps
Here is some pix of start and ending
Got to get some painting done
The grip holes turned out good in the press also
Going to make the lid just tip up with a hinge at the
back

Looks like what the factory should have installed.

Would have been a nice option on standards, but on row crops mother Deere wanted you to be able to install a loader, corn picker or barrels and have maximum crop clearance.

I take care of a couple hundred of these models here,, and I have seen some of the "craziest " configurations on battery boxes that you can imagine,, this is the best I have ever seen... and like Richard said Deere was set for many other uses, but most of those will never happen any more. I would like to see some of the thoughts on fuel tanks and battery boxes when Deere was drawing on these back in the beginning...and I would Like to have been in the "Think Tank" with them...

Do you want to sell any? Do you mind if I take your pics to my local shop and see about copying? If you have some more pics and measurements please post. I bought a 4020 last week that needs something like this as the batteries are on the frame and it looks bad. Thanks for posting Tom.

I made eight sets, will post some more pix shortly
biggest problem is mounting on tractor.
where do you live, I could see about shipping cost. email me

Now all you need to do is start the story that those came standard on the side console tractors!
Nice work!
Nice tractor too.

yup, was looking for a tapered bushing and came across the old bearing inner race.
got a tappered bushing opposite way on a bolt for the inside and when the press comes down it touches the top of the bolt and thats when u stop
turned out better than expected. 8 pumps on the hydraulic otc jack to be exact.

A quite nice way to do it would be to widden the platform and make a big box for one big battery that removes from the front but looks like factory, just bigger.
widening the platorm is never done, but would be a nice way to look factory.

With the Kleber rear tires, that tractor has to be French.
Does he still have the French front lights, turning lights, and the special light switch with the horn button in the center?

yes it is a 4020 fwa from france.
it never had the front lights on it but did have the blinker switch. the rear signal lights were removed when
restored in france. it has special lift assist cylinders on the three point and a special rear hitch known for
france . the farmer who brounght it to ontario had to take a chop saw and cut 3 inches off one side of the rear axle
to get it into the container.
hey good eyes.

It is interesting that it has an auxiliary cylinder on the 3 point. That is not common on 4020 in France, and was not factory.
It is an aftermarket one that probably bolts to the special hitch, or a 4430 one that bolt to the trumpet with 3 very long bolts (it makes the trumpet cracks)...
The last modification for France that is common is a trailer hydraulic brakes command, a valve that can send up to full system pressure (trough the diagnostic port front of the rockshaft), in proportion with the LH brake pedal pressure, taken with a special bledder screw. That works very well even for #45000 of wheat behind a 4020.

Almost every French 4020 we've seen has had auxiliary cylinders on it. Sometimes 1 sometimes 2.
