Deere 4520- 4620 repower with a 466, using late 7020 intake

I have heard and seen tractors repowered with a newer motor and using the older intercooler and exhaust out of the original 404. Those do not flow air as good.

I have taught of another way:
Use a late 7020 hood and air filter + air stack on 55 series intercooler and motor.
This would looks "factory", while having the air stack on the back like a 6030! What do you think?

This is a picture of the beast: The hood on those has quite a big cutout, but I think it will look good on a 4620! I know of one that is dismantled and scattered in a 200 miles radius in France, so almost the only way to resurect it is to use 7020 parts and a cheap 5720 silage chopper engine!

Don't quote me on this but I have heard that the later 7020 used the same motor as a 4630. If that is the case, you could use manifolds/turbo/intercooler, etc from a 4630 and it would work perfect with the 7020 hood. Those should be relatively easy parts to find I would think.

I have used an 8820 intercooler on a 404 in
a 4520 with no problems. You have to get
creative with turbo oil drain.

Yes they do have the 4630 motor after 1973. That is why I brought that up. Has to be on my "to do list" someday. A 4620 with a rear air stack will bring up some confusion at shows, particularly if it looks quite original.
But there are not that many late 7020 out there. Probably because you could buy a 4630 with a nice cab instead.

If you look in parts book, they are 2 types of 7020 hood.
The one for 4620 air filter and air intake, and the one for the 6030 air filter, with a big cutout on the back.

FDT860,

is the oval cut hood the same as the one on the 7520? My 7020 has the rectangular cut, but i kinda thought the 7520 and 6030 hood were the same.

I can answer that. The 6030 hood and the 7520 hood are the same aside from the 6030 having the hole up front for the fuel tank. But in the rear around the air cleaner they are identical, which is perfectly round. The 7020 appears to have the connecting air box prodtruding thru and therefore the hood is sorta notched around that. I am a bit surprised they couldn't have figured out out a way to keep the air cleaner to turbo pipe completely under the hood.
