Parts from Sharps

I've gotten a few things from them that were good quality but they let me down the last time I ordered from them. I bought a couple sets of brake linings and installed one set soon after I received them. Didn't get around to the other set for a couple months. Opened the other box and one of them was cracked so I contacted Sharps and they said I waited too long so there was nothing they could do. First time for me a company didn't stand behind their product that was delivered broken.

Some stuff is good some not. Not taking up for them
but Walmart and most businesses give only 30 days return.
I always check the parts when I get them though they
might set around for a year before I get to them. From Sharps
I usually buy stuff I know I might not need for a while
because of distance and freight charges.

It isn't just Sharps, this stuff comes from suppliers (????) from all over and one just has to be on top of it from the start. Sign of the times. I guess. Us older types just have to realize that our world of "new is correct and complete and unbroken" is in the past. Did you know there were throttle shafts out there for DLTX JD carbs, that when throttle is wide open the blade is 20 degrees from open? My SIL,s construction co. bought a case of tape measures because their guys were always losing them. Got a good price,we know where they came from, an inch actually was 7/8 measured with a quality one. They don't know what an inch is...they don't use our system and could care less. I dealt with the "oriental" so called "like kind and quality" auto body parts flooding us starting way back in early eighties and even insurance companies would only pay their price and not OEM. PURE JUNK from the get go. Bolt holes in wrong places and body lines out of place so couldn't line up with OEM on non replaced parts of car. The retailers vending this stuff have to know it or at least suspect it. all about profit and if it looks good at 20'...good to go. Pretty sad but it is what we get when we lose control.

Not yet. What really galls me it the A manifold gasket. 1/32 gasket material, no metal, and $3 less than the dealer part. Manifold studs are threaded cold rolled steel, not Gr. 8.

Aftermarket has been hit and miss for years and years. OEM has also became this way too ! I have had to rework a few original John Deere parts to make them fit and work.

This winter I had my first experience with Sharps and I'm not all that impressed with their gaskets. The gaskets I got were clearly hand made in the back room. I can make better gaskets than the ones they sent me. One gasket was paper when it should be cork. I put the Sharps paper gasket on the shelf and made one out of cork I had on hand, and the one I made looked neater.

I got a gasket from another H parts supplier and it too was very obviously handcut/home made. I had to modify is just to get the holes to line up. I could have done better making my own from the old gaskets that came off in pieces.

I've bought a good amount of parts from Sharps over the years and never had any issues. I haven't ordered from them in the last year or so though so maybe things have changed?
