John Deere 4010 Brake Problem

I have been stalking this forum for months. I have not found my answer. I have been working on a 61' 4010 diesel with great success and have run into a problem with the brakes. They were working properly before I removed the value and rebuilt with the cheap kit and replaced the boots with the boot assemblies. I also speedi sleeved the pto. The pto and brake valve are not leaking ( they were prior). I filled with hydraulic fluid.

I have nothing on the brake pedals. They sit all the way down. I have let it run for a while a tried to bleed with no change in the pedal/valve. As I said, the brakes were fine before dismantling.

The 3-point works, the power steering works and the transmission works. Any advice is appreciated.

Tell me more,,do you get any oil from the brake line ports when you hit the peddle?,,If yes did you have the bleeders out of the case,, and maybe the ball lost out?

I must be going something wrong. Removed the bleeders and removed the ball, ran the the tractor for 2 minutes with the pedals depressed. The pedals only depress 1/4". Reinstalled the ball and bleeders then released the pedals. Turned the tractor off and the pedals still only depress 1/4".

A small amount of fluid escaped from one of the bleeders.

I wonder if you have got the equalizer valve balls in wrong??? IF you do you will not have any flow to the brakes unless you push both pedals at the same time. I would bet that you have some thing in the valve installed wrong. Take it back apart and look close at how you have things together.

I have this trouble with those valves now. Years ago I would do one every month or two and keep the order of things fresh in my mind. Now I may do one a year. So I have to really watch how I reassemble them.

I think I will disassemble. I don't think the equalizer valve started till the 4020. There were no equalizer Parts in this valve.

When the valve is re-installed and the tractor cranked, should the pedals raise? When my valve ( so far) is disconnected and dry, the pedals are down. Is that the problem?

I figured out the problem. The boot assembly is meant for later S/n and I had to modify slightly. Now I get full stroke. The only issue now is the valve still leaks and fluid fills the boots.
