4430 Front Hydraulic Pump

Trying to fix some oil leaks on 4430. Took pump off and carried to mechanic for reseal. Still leaking. I think around shaft. Cheaper to by a rebuilt pump rather than possible shaft? Mechanic said he thought shaft would work ok but only possible cause. Any special seals Tim?

How many seals did he replace? Is the oil seepage line free flowing all the way back to the transmission case ?

Supposedly the kit plus the one around shaft. I need to check what you are talking about. Need to buy a manual. I will see I can find what you are referring to on parts diagram. Thanks!

Make sure he only drove the shaft seal in far enough to install the snap ring. If you bottom out the seal, it blocks the drain passage and forces the oil out past the outer seal. I found that on one last fall that customer had bought a rebuilt pump and installed. New seal installed properly fixed it. I almost always replace the shaft due to wear in the seal area and yes, it is cheaper than a rebuilt pump. Only time I replace a complete pump is if the piston bores are scored or the inlet valves are worn out.

I agree with Cliffs except I think going with a new after market pump when the shafts is worn, by the time you
change the shaft,bearings,seal kit and stroke valve you are new the replacement cost,and you at replacement price

Is it dripping or spraying I had a leak on my 4440 I thought was the pump. It was spraying a very
small stream. But when I held a piece of cardboard in front of the stream It wasn't coming from the
pump it was a powersteering line . It was spraying to the front of the pump .

I was thinking I was going to be at rebuilt pump cost by the time I put much more $ in. Best I can tell it is around shaft. Hard to tell laying on back looking up under there. Not much room to see. Pretty substantial oil leak though. I dropped it out bottom last time because I replaced water pump pulley and pulled radiator and flushed. Not a problem out the top? I have a 148 loader bracket mounted to tractor, but the loader portion is off. Unbolt from mounting bracket and she will come out ok? Does radiator have to be drained and moved? TIA!

Pull the radiator and take it out the top...you can do it with the radiator in,, but you have a lot more access with it out..

I took the oil seepage line off of back of tractor today and had no oil. Blew line out to make sure it was clear. I took it off at pump and had no oil coming out there either. Is it possible seal was driven in too far? Should I see oil flowing from this line? Thanks!

Im not an expert but Did rebuild my pump on
our 4430 last year due to the shaft seal
leaking. The seepage line is between the
internal seal and the outer dust seal. If it
starts leaking a little it will direct the
oil back into the tractor. If your seal isnt
leaking i think that would be a good thing.
