I was able to get my 1010RS PTO rebuild done yesterday. Took me about two hours and was pretty straightforward. With the unit off the tractor and on a bench first I removed the spring pin holding the counpler on.

Next I removed the large c clip holding the shaft and bearing in the unit. A screwdriver popped this one right out.

The next part slowed me down. I had a hard time removing the c clip holding the bearing onto the PTO shaft. Finally was able to bend the old c clip out of shape and remove it.

It was easy to get the old bearing off using a vice and a few taps of the hammer on the shaft. I installed a new bearing in the same fashion.

Next I stripped the housing of the seals and needle bearing using a punch. I was extra careful not to mar the inside of the housing. I got everything cleaned up nice at this point.

Reinstalling first I put the small internal seal into the housing. I then used a 1 1/4 socket to lightly drive the needle bearing into the housing. I put some grease on this to get it to slide a bit easier. Make sure you don't drive the needle bearing so far you cover the oil port!

Then I installed the outer seal. I tried to position the seals in areas where there was not any wear on the PTO shaft as I reinstalled them.

The shaft then went into the housing carefully and a little tapping got the large bearing to seat. Next was the large c clip to hold everything in the housing which went in easy. Last was oil and the unit was done, no leaks!

Here it is on the tractor with the PTO shield I got from Ray a member here at YT.

Looks like some wear marks from the needle bearing on the shaft. Hopefully it's just stains. Glad it went well.

it wasn't worn like where the outer seal had been where you could feel it. I'm not sure how much that needle bearing was doing. It came out in pieces. Once back together it was real nice and smooth especially compared to before. Next time no doubt it will require a new shaft.

Looks like a well done job. It is very satisfying to make your own repairs especially when you think about the cost savings. I like how you took plenty of pics as you went along. We should do more of that. I always wanted either a 1010 narrow front or a 1010 standard especially the early ones with the shifter on the dash. Tom
