3010 Drawbar Support

My father in law has a 3010 that has a broken Front Drawbar Support. The "hoop" the drawbar pin drops through was previously cracked/broken and welded. Today while pulling a disc the weld broke which allowed the drawbar to pull out through the rear. Is this piece cast steel or cast iron? If cast iron would nickel rods be the best choice to re-weld after proper prep work? Thanks in advance.

I've never seen a drawbar support broken on a New Generation tractor. Must have been some serious stress applied to drawbar to break support. Sorry I have no idea what type of metal support is made of.

Have you considered replacing the support? I would think to V grind & get good bead penetration on support it would need to be removed from tractor.

I doubt very much it's a "forging". Likely cast iron or nodular cast iron.

I's look for good used one.

I agree and would be curios to how it was originally broken. My biggest question is how to repair it and what kind of metal it is. I don't want to remove it if I don't have to seeing how there are several bushings and seals involved. It's very accessible to repair I figure whoever repaired it before just did not get a good weld probably because of incorrect rod selection and not properly grinding etc.

Your going to need to remove it to repair it,, the over head welding will not work out well for you..and while you have it off just get a used one,, they should be easy to find. To remove it drain the oil, remove the load shaft and hammer the front pin out, there is a roll pin in a blind hole, just smack it hard with a big punch and hammer to get it out,,not a bad job to do,,and it will be right..

Yes it takes impact to break them. I have sold two off of parts tractors over the years, one for a 3020 and one for a 2510. Neighbor broke his on a 4440. He was pulling a forage harvester down the road and his son was following with a 4020 and wagon. The 4440 stopped and the 4020 ran into the back of the harvester breaking the support. I agree on replacing rather than welding. Tom
