JD 1520 PTO

When pushing the clutch half down, the pto stops and the tractor keeps going. Pushing the clutch fully down, the pto and tractor stop. Isn't that opposite of how it's supposed to work?Thanks,gregjo1948

I agree your tractor clutch operation is opposite to manufacturer's design. I can't envision an easy explanation as to how the pressure plate can release the pto clutch before the traction clutch unless PP fingers are grossly maladjusted which would affect clutch pedal travel distance. Maybe the traction clutch disk is warped??

(quoted from post at 07:29:49 02/21/17) Some more info could help. As recent
repairs, problem happen all at once.

I just got the tractor. The free travel of the pedal is about an inch which seems right. I've never had a JD with the 2 stage clutch and I'm not clear as to how it operates. I assume there are 2 clutches. As the pedal is depressed the tractor motion clutch is opened then the more the pedal is pushed, the pto clutch is opened. The pto clutch must be operating directly with the engine flywheel which disconnects the engine from the entire drive train.
The pedal positioning bolt is fully forward in the slot. Looking thru the inspection hole, I can see that, when pushing the pedal it starts moving the throw out bearing forward to open the clutch from the flywheel.
I guess I need to see a break down of the JD 2 stage to understand how it's set up.
Thanks, gregjo1948

Thanks for the picture. I think the problem lies in the adjustment. I'll adjust linkage and pedal location bolt and post my results. gregjo1948

The problem was in adjustments.Went in thru the hole in the housing and adjusted the fingers closer to the throw out bearing. Then adjusted the exterior clutch rod. Works as it shoould now. gregjo1948
