5020 overhault kit - Reliance, Federal Mogul

I have used several Reliance kits and have been happy. My 4230 starts great and runs great and we have about 700 hours on that kit. I plan on putting one in my 4020 before spring work as well. Tom

I used a reliance kit in a 7520 last summer, prob same kit or very similar.i was happy with the kit, but have had trouble getting it broke in so it won't slobber fuel idling. I think it's pretty much done after being on a dyne for 8 hrs. Mine is a restored tractor and didnt want to use it after painting, your situation may be diff.

I use Reliance kits here,I have heard that they are the ones that make Deere kits, all have worked out well, as
far as the break in issue you must use break in oil or an additive with any kit now days

Put one in my 4230 also. Its amazing what a fresh OH and new injectors will do. That thing would not start without either unless it was above 70 out,now fires right up anytime. Had almost 9800 hrs on it when I overhauled it.

I have used both reliance and JD and I can tell you they are NOT the same. I have only used 2 reliance kits in 466 engines and was not impressed. The reliance
for some reason uses larger piston pins. IIRC they were about .020 larger than deere pins. Not a big deal but more material needs to be removed from the wrist
pin bushing. I know deere kits are a lot more expensive but after personally seeing two reliance pistons come apart with less than 1000 hours in 8.1 L engines I
have not used them since. They are not the worst kit and should be fine in most light to moderate load applications in my opinion.
