My 1st time on this forum (my other tractors are Fords & Fergusons). Three months ago I bought a 1983 JD 1250. Last week moving snow with the bucket in float. About 2 hrs in I couldn't push the control lever all the way forward to put the bucket in float. Raise, lower & dump all work fine. Can't see anything external interfering with the lever. Fig. 141 in the JD-55 IT manual shows a plug, springs & dentent pawls in the detent block. My detent block is there but there's no plug & I can see the end of the detent pin move in & out when I move the control lever. Could the plug, springs & pawls have fallen out causing the loss of float? Any ideas on what could be wrong & what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Could of fallen out or they could be seized up ? Had a new Kubota that had then rusted up. Not many 1250 out there. Yanmar built good machines for Deere but many parts are getting hard to find.

What model loader??? That is where you would find the value unless your using the tractor valves to run the loader.

I agree with you but my guess is OP is utilizing tractor scv's to control loader since he mentioned an I&T tech manual 55. If indeed he's utilizing tractor scv's then more than likely the spool is rusty/dirty not allowing full movement of spool to float position.

By design loader is controlled by the tractor hyd valve. I was finally able to get it into float, looked at end of detent pin & saw it was a little rusty. Sprayed it a couple of time with WD40 & now it works great.
