Best cleaning solvent/oil bath

What would ya'll recommend for baths that you put oily/rusty/dirty parts in to get all the crud off. My neighbor has a bath that works really well, but he said they don't make the liquid he uses anymore. I've heard from some folks use diesel. What has worked for you folks? I need it in particular to loosen up the gunk in a carb so I can clean the jets.

THanks.

napa should still sell a dunk type carb. cleaner. Works for all the grease ,oil and varnished gas but not rust.
Guy at the truck garage used it for cleaning up engine parts.

I have had good luck soaking in caustic to get rid of grease, then vinegar to get rid of rust. Most of the dunk type carburetor cleaners are a strong caustic (lye).

Haul a bunch to the car wash, set it on High-Hot, let 'er rip. Then rinse off. Then vinegar, for a few days.

For just a carb , a gallon of lacquer thinner is all I've ever used . Cuts gum, sludge, paint, grease . If it's rusty inside , vinegar or diluted muriatic acid is effective...

I got a drum of car wash soap in concentrate (for free!!) and man did that stuff strip things. Used it full strength in the parts cleaner. I think it was made by Zep.
