Hyd oil question

Will certain brands of hyd oil cause seals and packing to break down? This weekend a neighbor brought me a SCV and the quad rings were crumbling and real brittle. Another neighbor I have rebuilt cylinders for that have had the same thing happen. I probably do 3 or 4 a year for him. Both are using the same brand of oil and its not hyguard.

I'm sure it can given all the other problems it causes with the brakes in JD tractors ! Also they may be running too hot from high pressure leaks and plugged up oil cooler fins ?

If it was just on one tractor I can see it over heating but its on several implements and a sprayer.

Regular buna-N (nitrile) o-rings can take 200 F without problems. Many heavy-duty hydrostat-driven machines run with reservoir temps around 160 with 200+ in the motor case drain lines and buna-N is the standard material used for the o-rings in the system. Viton is recommended if temperatures get much above 220 or so.
