1010 PTO Rebuild

I need to rebuild the PTO assembly on my 1010 RS. I went to JD and got the two bearings, two seals and new e-clips. Mine no longer would hold oil but things didn't feel terribly worn. This seems really straight forward to me. Unbolt from tractor, pull or break old e-clip, PTO shaft comes out. Take out old seals/bearings, clean, and reinstall.

Seems easy, hope it is. Anyone dealt with a PTO shaft that has a lot of wear? I am keeping my fingers crossed wear is limited on it. Leaning towards putting a sleeve on the shaft if there is wear instead of spending $150 on a new shaft.

Before 42000 1010 RS, single PTO by the way.

I have the same tractor and the same issue. When I get the time I was planning on just replacing mine with a spare I have rather than buying the new seals and such. I'd try and get my hands on a service manual if I were you. It'll tell you everything you need to know on how to remove, clean and reassemble the sucker.

I was able to get all the parts from JD for $41.00 for the rebuild which was pretty good in my book. Just hoping to not have to get a new PTO shaft which seem to be around $150.

I haven't bought a repair manual yet for this tractor. I may before I dig into this because I do not want to be down for long in case it snows. This tractor has snow blower duty this year and my luck we will get dumped on if I run into an unforeseen issue.

I got a good laugh watching her try to back up while getting blasted with snow.
The Kubota video after yours looks like a much better way to blow.

Her words before getting on the tractor "You wanted the blower now stop whining you need a cab tractor!".

Her words after getting off the tractor "Wow that sucks you can do it until we get a cab tractor!".

I think that means I should have bought her a cab tractor for Valentines Day. Right?

I also showed her how to turn the chute after she got off the tractor... :)

You will find out that the new seals that you purchased are about 5/16" think, where the old seals are 3/8" to 1/2" thick. Just press the seal in a little further or a little less so that the seal lip is riding on an unworn part of the PTO shaft.

This is exactly the info I was hoping someone would chime in with. On my MT & LA I noticed this with seals as well. However on the 1020 it seems the few seals I have replaced are of the new modern "slimmed down" size. Glad to hear the 1010 wasn't on that diet yet and I will have some room to play with.
