2840 Setting the rear axle bearings?

Have the axle and housing assembly apart to replace a leaking inner axle seal. Now it's time to put it together, but does anyone know how to set the axle bearings? This is a real late serial number if that matters. Thanks

Hmmm about like the bigger tractors...it's a 'crush some lead balls...measure and build a shim pack...check and add or subtract shims to set rolling-torque'

Ain't too bad to do..but better read the chapter in the manual for specs and procedure....

Bearing preload is simply set by the torque on the bolt. I'd also use some Loctite on it even though it has a lock-plate. Torque the bolt to 55 foot lbs.
Rotate a few times and recheck to 55 foot lbs. When all done, rolling axle torque is supposed to be around 15 lbs.
