john deere 700 grinder mixer hay table

has anyone ever added a hay table to a 700 that did not previously have one? what all was entailed if you did. also is it feasible to grind hay with out the hay table?

I'm sure it can be done, but it will be a difficult task. the main issue when grinding hay in a hammer mill is the hammers fold back and the patty of hay starts "thumping and banging" as the hammers try to cut it up,, the 700/750's with hay mills have a hay knife in between each hammer that is ridged this lets the hays get sliced up better and not letting the mill sound and act like it's going to explode,,you should install the hay knives first and see how you like it. We still run a 750 with a hay mill/feeder, when we start a new batch of cattle we grind a large percentage of common dry hay in with a small amount of grain, to where it is bulky then fill stuffers with it, it takes a lot of "poking" to keep the feed from bridging in the feeder,, we do this for about 10 days then start backing off the hay and adding more grain , the flat bottom grinder works out great for this,,but most of the parts are not available for them any more,, we buy a used one for parts when we can,,make what we can't get,, we only feed 1 batch of 250 a year. They are available and pricey it takes 16 of them N172130 at $71.83 each
