466 engine lineage?

My Uncle had the engine out of his newer model combine yedterday and I was looking at it. Says it's a 9 litre. That got me wondering.

I know the 404 became the 466, became the 7.6, became the 8.1. Did that then grow into the 9.0 litre?

And if so, would it physically bolt up still to a 4020/4320 like the 466s do? I thought I had heard that the 8.1s would but I'm not sure who told me that.

I know that if it is the same lineage, it's still a different animal, with common rail injection and egr. And I know it's more power than the 4020s were designed for. I'm just curious if it'd bolt in, or if the bolt pattern, bellhousing pattern ect has changed in the last 50+ years.

started life as 380 in 4010. oil pan gasket was the same 4010 through 4960. when the 8300 came out the block-pan had bigger but fewer holes or bolts.
I know with a boring bar I could put everything from an 8.1 (8400) into a 4010 I suspect the same with 9.0. Paul

All 466 blocks were not the same. The earlier ones had the same
frame bolt pattern as the 404s but the later ones were not.
Doesn't mean they can't be put in with enough engineering though.
Is it worth the effort and expense?
