Crankshaft Seal

I am doing some repairs to a customers 1020 John Deere, including replacing the clutch. As a matter of course I remove the flywheel to check the rear crank seal....its wet, time to replace. By the serial # this should use the newer type seal but it actually requires the T20326 seal......ONLY $340 !!!!!!!!
I cannot source it anywhere else. Great.

Go to your local parts yard and get an R63434 flywheel housing so you can use the modern seal. The housing will be cheaper than the old style seal.

Exactly the issue on my 1020 gas. Real seal is leaking, getting on flywheel causing slipping of the clutch. My serial number is just above the break so I was hoping to not run into this when I get the money to make the repair... I can get it for $275 from my Deere dealer.

I had thought about "updating" the housing before you suggested it, so after your post I checked on the newer housing at the wreckers....$400!

Years ago I ran into she same issue with a 2510. A local shop took my rear housing and put it a lathe or milling machine and drilled it out to fit the newer seal. It has been over 25 years ago but it might be something for you to check into. Tom

I'd shop around, they should be found for less than that. In my shop I would still update it to get the better seal.
