Hello

I am new to the older John Deere world i have what what i believe is a 1941 A john Deere hand start no electronics.

Trying to figure out what i actually have

I have an oil leak from flywheel shaft i want to fix, and some more information about it.

thanks

First I'd say buy a service manual
Remove flywheel, make sure you can see the INDEX marks on Crank Shaft & Fly wheel.
Remove the 5/16 cap screws & you'll need a gasket there & New Crankshaft seal. Soak
with oil & reinstall reverse procedure. Make sure there is a Drive key/pin in the flywheel
to drive the oil slinger, make sure you install the seal retainer/slinger at the correct
keyway to match drive pin in flywheel. Set to proper crankshaft end play.

Deere still has them. Bought a seal for a 44 about month ago. The gasket you could make
if wanted, sometime come off & you could re-use it.
