JD 4000 hood

Looking a hood for a 1972 4000 diesel without breather stack. Any ideas or a good body man near NC.

Finding good hoods is a problem.
I got two aftermarket ones. One junky
one after after the other. Sent them back.
They said they got some from Deere and
they weren't good either.
I think that aftermarket manufacturer is
out of business.
If yours only has a mashed nose that's
not too bad a fix. Caved in top or sides
is another matter.

When Deere was starting to make those hoods back in the beginning they had a lot of trouble getting them to stamp out well,,so it must be even tougher for an after market outfit to do it well...this is one of the reasons for the hoods to change shape in the front on the 30 series..

Yes easier and cheaper to stamp with an open end
and use a fiberglass nose piece.

I'd think a breather stack hole would be any easy job to plug shut if the rest of the hood was good.

you are right plus there were a very low percentage
oval muffler hoods having above hood precleaners.
