38 John Deere B

When re-assembling the rods what is the correct clearance between the rod and crank? Also do you measure by feel or a gap of .XXX? My old manual states to remove shims to until you feel snug then put a shim back in. Also does anyone know if the John Deere rings P/N AB2522R are cast or steel? Thanks

When I've done my tractors I do the connecting rods the same way take them out until it feel snug and then I put two back in. One on top one on bottom. That should give you approximately .003- .004". At least to the best of my knowledge. I'd rather run them a little loose then too tight. The last set or two rings that I bought from John Deere were cast. Look like the boxes were from 1940.
