A carburator- update

o.k I checked the fuel flow and all looks great. found out the shut off on the sediment bowl still has a slow drip even when is shut off. that will be another day. so I pulled the cap and looked at the points and they look pretty sad so now im thinking along the lines of faulty ignition and I watched an old pull video and each time as it spit and sputtered it would blow a puff of black smoke so I'm assuming it has fuel.so can I get a set of points at napa? I know I could order them thru this site but theres a napa on the corner.

Autolite 3116 no other...!

Be specific when you go to NAPA for the Points and Condenser...

Ask for the "Premium" brand...I believe "Standard" is still a good brand, but ask again on that...

You should be able to get points at NAPA, be aware that some condensers are junk right out of the box.

Hook a timing light up so you can watch it as you pull it down. That should help tell if the ign. is failing.

I like to use Blue Streak points. All parts are copper plated. Were made in USA but are now from Mexico but still good. Put a set in my A over ten years ago and haven't touched them since.

This post is as much a trial in using my first Smart Phone as it is about old tractors. The clear tube is just a measure of float level, so I took a couple of more representative pictures. As far as setting point gap, .020 will work. The number really being set is the dwell angle, read with a dwell meter, probably 28-30 deg will work just fine. Set dwell before timing. Dwell will change timing but timing will not change dwell. Since electronic ignition came out, I have not used mechanical points for the past 35 years for our racing engines nor for the past 3 years when I took up this antique tractor hobby.

These new phones can be quite handy, even for us old geezers, the younger guys can't pick on my old flip phone any longer.
