2950 Stuck in gear

I have a 2950 with a cab and it is stuck in gear. The hi / low / reverse lever works fine. The one that selects the gears is stuck. It is stuck in 3rd gear in low and 7th in hi. I disconnected the linkage at the rods that go down to the transmission and the linkage and levers are free. The rods that go down to the trans are stuck. Any ideas???

Time for the big charge of "Tannerite".. but it sounds like a gear gaulded to the shaft..

Yes, Mine has stuck between gears a couple of times. It usually happens on mine when who ever is driving does not stay in the H pattern. I lift the cover of the shifter off and use a phillips screwdriver (stuck in the slots) to shift it to neutral. This gets it back where it is supposed to be. I do not know if this is what is wrong with yours, but thought I would share what happened to mine in case that would help you with yours.

Sounds like a cab tractor. I would take the floor panel out and remove the shift cover. As fb50 said it is likely in 3/7 gear but the shift lever is in the 1/5 2/6 side of the pattern and you can't shift that rail due to the interlock pins in the rails. I have seen it happen several times on open tractors by speed shifting where the rail continues to the next gear after you move the lever sideways to go to a different gear. Harder to do with cab as the linkage dampens the movement but it is possible. Let us know what you find

I have had to repair my 3150 that had the same problem. It had a worn shifter fork. It was able to jump out of place. With the cab models you have to pull the cab to access the trans and do a 3 piece split. The shifter rail had to be removed from the front to change the fork. I was told this problem wasnt rare on the 2950-3150 trans. Feel free to call me and t I could walk you throurh how to do this repair. Al 231/757/0064

Well up here its harder to get the dynamite fix, I reserve it for other makes, LOL.
I know everyone has there own way of doing things, but I have yet to take a cab off a Mannheim built tractor, I usually split back of the clutch housing and roll the powertrain out from under the cab.
I would suggest checking/replacing the reverse idler bearings when you are in there. I might be wrong in this happening to a 50 series but I know I have done several on 55's. The bad news of that is you have an empty transmission case at some point in the process, just like doing the bottom shaft in a Waterloo.

I had to move it yesterday and drove it down a slight hill. While going down the hill I was pulling on the lever and it popped out of gear. Seems to be OK for now will be using it today and will see what happens
