1020 gas sputters then stalls when hot

Hi,

I've got a 1020 gas that was running fine until recently. Once it is up to temperature it starts to sputter then the engine quits. I let it sit for a minute and it starts right up, then after running for another 30 secs or so it will sputter and stall again. If I let her cool down then start from cold, she runs fine for 10-15mins until hot and the symptoms repeat. Any ideas??

thank you,
David

When it does that release the gas cap and see if she will start. Then I would check the electric gas shut-off on the carb . It also sounds like the coil is quitting . If the gas tank is full that rules out the fuel pump. Hope this helps .

The moment it dies check that you have a good blue/white spark at he center distributor wire and at the plug wires that jump a 1/4 inch gap of more. Then check that you have a good fuel flow. from the drain plug on the carb. Also as said take the gas cap off slowly and listen for a suction or air venting out when you take it off. If the tank vent is clogged up it will do as your is doing. I have a 1020 in the shop right no doing a number of major things to it

Carb was getting plenty of fuel so I went ahead and replaced the distributor coil. Makes sense too since problem was so temp dependent an the coil is mounted right on the block. Seems to be running fine now. Thanks again for the responses.
