41 A starts ok runs fine till I drop rpm to low idle. Knock seems to be coming
from the crankcase, flywheel area. Idle it up and Knock goes away, no knock at
run speeds just low idle. Even if my crank end play is right could it be mains
or if end play wrong could it be mains being worn. I dont think its a rod and
wont know till I look. If its a rod I would think it would get louder with
higher rpm.

Also, Crank End-Play may be the cause also..

That was the MOST often cause for us on the Late Styled JD "B"...got so we would set them very close to no clearance..

My neighbour runs a JD 730 Diesel Straight Electric Start. I finally checked his Tractor in October.I Dammed near had to beat him on the head to convince him the FLY WHEEL was loose and not a problem in the CLUTCH PULLEY assembly, just because the noise was evident in the clutch area. There is a saying "The dog wags the tail". The loose FLY WHEEL was sending a Torsional Shock load into the Clutch assembly.
