Setting Up John Deere 60 with Baker Valve 950-250

I recently purchased a Baker multivalve for use on my John Deere 60. Before installing the unit I wanted to get advice from those who have installed/used them on their JDs. I have the stud extensions but I still need the gasket for between the powrtol unit and the baker valve. Can I purchase that online or will i need to cut the gasket myself? Also, is there any trick to using the valve for 2 way pressure operation (which is really why I purchased the valve). Thanks.

Sincerely,

Peter Markel

Send me an email, and I'll send you a PDF of the set-up instructions. It describes the install procedure, and how to change from 1-way to 2-
way. You can use a stock Power-Trol gasket, might have to enlarge the holes a little for the adapter bolts for between the Baker valve and
Power-Trol

If you are installing on a 60 with live PTO you will have interference and require some grinding on the pto. JD has gaskets you will need 2. I can shoot a pix of the interference problem. Russ

Can't help you with the instructions but I have been looking for Power Trol gaskets for my B project with a Baker valve online tonight and haven't come up with anything. The original gaskets are black in color and don't appear to be made out of paper material, possibly because of the higher pressure? If Deere doesn't carry this gasket I suppose I'll have to use paper? I'll let you know what I come up with tomorrow after I call Deere.

An easy way to cut a gasket is lay you material over item and use a small ballpeen hammer and just tap the hammer around the edges. use the nose of the hammer for the holes and corners

f the gasket is the same btwn your B and my 60, it should be A1447R, which is available through John Deere at about $16 per gasket. However, I don't know what material it is.

The B takes the 1447 gasket. My local Deere dealer will have two in on a Tuesday stock order. People knock Deere for having high priced parts which is only partly true, but I feel lucky to be able to still get, from Deere, this gasket for a part that was last made over 60 years ago. Deere could have forgotten about this gasket long ago.

Russ, I guess I'm one of the lucky few. I installed a Baker valve on my 60 last winter. It is very tight between the Power Trol and the live PTO housing, mine fit without grinding. There are a total of 3 variations of live PTO during the life of the 60, with a change in the housing and cover at S/N 6025404. Mine is earlier than that, so there possibly is a slight difference in the outer dimensions of the castings between the early and later versions. Not trying to start an argument, just giving my experience.

am really hoping not to grind the casting. Before I bought the baker, I slid a very thin piece of cardboard btwn the casting and the powr-trol box. It's tight but I think I will have the clearance. I am not positive of my serial number, but I know it is very low and a 52'for sure.

Remember the baker moves the power troll back 2 inches. You may be all right as you have an early 60 and the pto may be different than on mine. Russ

Rons b,
When I make gaskets using a ballpeen hammer I start by making one of the holes as you described and
then put a bolt in it to hold the gasket material in place. Then I make another hole and put a bolt
in and keep doing this until all the holes are made. Finally I use the hammer to cut or mark the
inside and outside edges and finish with scissors if necessary.

hat's clever. Do you think regular gasket material will work between the powrtrol and baker or should I just get the gaskets from Deere?
