I have a 2640 with a fuel leak around the throttle
shaft on the pump
I was wondering if that seal can be replaced,
or do I have to remove the pump and send it to a
high cost shop
Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

If it's like most I see the retainer ring is failing inside, bits will begin to plug the return side causing housing pressure to rise. That will then cause the shaft to leak. When it gets bad enough engine may not hold speeds as it should, may even die but restart again after setting still a few minutes. If run too long the retainer pins can shear off, seizing the rotor and breaking the drive shaft.

There's O-rings on each half of the throttle/shutdown shaft.

If you're clean, careful and methodical it's not a bad job to replace them.

Downside is a screwup there could cause an engine overspeed condition and NO ability to shut the engine down.

O-ring part # is R76578, will also require a cover gasket # T11918.

There may be some previous, more detailed post in the archives. I will look and see if I have any applicable instructions scanned.

That o ring is the "messenger". He is trying to tell you how old and hard the driveshaft seal is. Changing the o rings isnt that difficult, and most guy could handle this job themselves. Just keep an eye on the dip stick. It is not "if", but "when" the drive seal starts to fail Get that pump resealed. Buy changing out the o rings you are buying a little time. Sometimes the drive seals fail at a bad time like during hay season, or cost you an engine overhaul buy washing out the bearings. Reseals are cheaper than repairs. Call around and ask questions. You may be surprised how cheap you can get this thing resealed and not have to worry about it for many years to come. Al
