A friend is going to lend me his hydraulic log splitter. I've

never used remotes. I'm pretty sure they're break away .
what about he selective control lever or depth control lever . Do they need to be adjusted?

Remotes require "John Deere style" male tips.

Depth control lever is for 3-point hitch, doesn't affect hydraulic remote operation.

Does the splitter have it's own valve, or does the cylinder plug directly into the tractor's remotes? (This is an important question, as your tractor has a "closed center" hydraulic system.)

Thanks for the reply

the splitter has it's own valve and it's currently being used a on 4300 JD tractor.

Can you tell by the pics if I have breakaway remote? Any other info I need to know?

Yes your tractor has breakaway remotes. Once you plug the correct male tip which only JD 10-40 series tractors utilized there a lever under bottom of breakaway that must be rotated 90° to allow hyd oil to flow to splitter.

Now the bad news is the splitter valve is open center which will cause your tractors hyd oil to heat up and stop operating correctly.

Thanks for all the info

I bought a kit from "Oregon" They make a valve kit to change the splitter from open to closed.

They make kits for several makers

also here's a link that lists which tractors are open or closed hydraulic systems
