I am helping a friend with a restoration of an H. we have a different mag for the tractor he calls it the x model. Now the mag drive is to short to reach the govenor coupling. I pulled the coupling off of the govenor shaft to get it to reach, but I am wondering what is the correct solution to make this work.

They made both a Long drive Lug and a Short drive Lug (for mags mating into governor slot) that can be interchanged on the Wico C or X Mags depending on what tractor they were used on. Sounds like you have a short when you need a long...

I made some adapters to convert a short lug to a long lug when I worked in a machine shop. I think I still have some. My name is Bill and my phone is 614-561-9454. I'm in Ohio. Give me a call anytime.

Well for some reason I was thinking all JD H models used the short lug mag. I'd have to check books for sure. Sounds like something is not right in the gov. area.

Mike M is correct. EVERY model "H" (except perhaps for S/N 1000, the one used at the Nebraska Tractor test lab and then scrapped - the test report states a Splitdorf mag was on that tractor) was equipped from the factory with an AH653R WICO "C" magneto with a SHORT LUG impulse drive cup.

If a "long lug" impulse drive cup has to be used, there is definitely something wrong in the coupling or governor shaft area.

Mike, I wish I had half the brain cells and knowledge that you have regarding Two-Cylinder tractors. And just to verify that short lugs were also used on WICO "X" magnetos that were used as service replacements on the model "H", here's an excerpt from another bulletin.
